The FMCSA (DOT) requires the email option to go to their published endpoint. It is up to the FMCSA to distribute that to the proper authorities. Some officers are not aware of how this mechanism works and may be confused because older ELDs (before the mandate) allowed them to enter in whatever address they wanted. This is no longer the case. Per the mandate, the ELD must send emails to the FMCSA address, and no other address.
The FMCSA will know how to send the officer the logs based on the file comment the officer adds to the logs.

Email transfers should only be used to transfer ELD data via FMCSA’s ELD email address, not directly to a roadside inspector.
