Changing Your Duty Status

Changing your duty status is an essential part of the DriverLog application. Thankfully, it's as easy as a few taps of the touchscreen. 

Steps

1. On the DriverLog screen, where you may see your current speed and you logs, there will be a large button to the right of your current speed. Tap on this green button.

2. A small window will appear with a number of possible duty statuses. For more information on what each of these mean, please consult "Duty Statuses" at the bottom of this article. For the purposes of this guide, we'll tap the "ON - On Duty" button now.

3. Another window will appear. The contents of the window will depend upon the duty status, but some important items are highlighted in the screenshot below. After all items have been filled in, tap the "OK" button.

a. For some duty statuses, a reason must be selected. To do so, tap the drop down menu and select your choice from the list that appears. Here, the option "returning to on duty" has been selected.

b. For most vehicles, the Odometer will automatically be filled. However, if it does not, it must be entered manually.

4. Upon tapping the "OK" button, the windows will disappear. Notice that the large button you tapped has changed its text to show your new duty status. Likewise, below the chart, you will see a log entry of your change in status.

Duty Statuses

Most Used

These duty statuses have large buttons. They are rather self-explanatory, and most drivers find themselves using these more often than any others.

D (Driving) - This status represents driving. Time spent in this status will count against both your driving time and your shift time.

ON (On Duty) - This status represents being on duty, but not driving. Time spent in this status will count against your shift time, but not your driving time.

OFF (Off Duty) - This status represents being off duty. Your driving and shift times will stop decreasing while you are in this state.

SB (Sleeper Berth) - This status represents using the sleeper berth of a truck. It is nearly identical to Off Duty.

DVIR - This begins a pre-trip or post-trip inspection. It will activate the Wireless Links DVIR app to provide a report to be filled.

Logout - Logs you out of the DriverLog application.

Other Duty Statuses

While not used as often as the other duty statuses, each of these serve an essential role.

Adverse Driving - If you find yourself in unexpected adverse driving conditions that will slow you down, such as traffic due to a crash or bad weather, you may use this status to drive up to two extra hours to make up for lost time.

Personal Use - This status represents using a vehicle for personal use. It will not count against your cycle or shift time.

Yard Moves - A special On Duty state for yard work where the vehicle is driving, but only around the yard. This state will keep you in an On Duty state rather than automatically switch you to a Driving state when motion is detected.

Comment - This button allows you to add a comment to your logs, if you find no other status applies.

New Manifest - Allows you to record a new manifest in your logs without ending your shift.

Switch Truck - Allows you to switch vehicles without ending your shift.

Switch Trailer - Allows you to switch trailers without ending your shift.
